Types of Chemical Reactions
In this laboratory investigation, you will be conducting various types of chemical reactions. You will determine the type of reaction and products made based on your explanation of evidence. Once the reactions and post lab writeup have been conducted, you will create symbolic representations for each type of reaction, displaying the movement of particles during various chemical reactions.

Knowledge: Lab Investigation Data

Exceeds Expectations

Student can accurately show that he/she understands how to write the reactants (states) and products (states) made in a balanced chemical reaction and correctly identify the type of reaction from the evidence provided by each reaction type.
Meets Expectations

Student demonstrates a good understanding on how to write the reactants (states) and products (states) made in a balanced chemical reaction and can correctly identify the type of reaction from the evidence provided by each reaction type.
Satisfactory

Student demonstrates an understanding of how to write three of the five types of chemical reactions and can correctly identify three of five of the type of reaction from the evidence provided by each reaction type.
Limited

Student demonstrates a limited understanding when writing between each of the five types of chemical reactions and incorrectly identifies many of the types of reaction from the evidence provided by each reaction type.
Observations: Lab Investigation

Exceeds Expectations

Four or more qualitative observations are made to provide evidence to categorize reaction types.
Meets Expectations

Three qualitative observations are made to provide evidence to categorize reaction types.
Satisfactory

Two qualitative observations are made to provide evidence to categorize reaction types.
Limited

One qualitative observation is made to provide evidence to categorize reaction types.
Post-Lab Writeup/Conclusion: Lab

Exceeds Expectations

Answers, Errors, and Conclusion accurately show that student uses evidence to identify and explain the happenings of each of the five types of chemical reactions.
Meets Expectations

Answers, Errors, and Conclusion demonstrate an adequate use of evidence to identify and explain the happenings of each of the five types of chemical reactions.
Satisfactory

Answers, Errors, and Conclusion show that student lacks the use evidence to identify and explain the happenings of each of the five types of chemical reactions.
Limited

Answers, Errors, and Conclusion inadequately show that student uses evidence to identify and explain the happenings of each of the five types of chemical reactions.
Knowledge: Symbolic Representations

Exceeds Expectations

Student can accurately show that he/she understand the connections between each of the five types of chemical reactions and the diagrams created.
Meets Expectations

Student demonstrates a good understanding of the connections between each of the five types of chemical reactions and the diagrams created.
Satisfactory

Student demonstrates an understanding of two of the five types of chemical reactions and the diagrams created.
Limited

Student demonstrates a limited understanding the connections between each of the five types of chemical reactions and the diagrams created.
Symbolic Representation:Originality

Exceeds Expectations

Most diagrams created reflect a high degree of student creativity in their creation and/or display and are related to the topic.
Meets Expectations

Three of the diagrams created reflect a high degree of student creativity in their creation and/or display and are related to the topic.
Satisfactory

The diagrams are created by the student, but are not directly portraying the reaction type they are describing/defining.
Limited

The diagrams are created by the student, but they are not describing the reactions in any way that allows the audience to identify the type of reaction in reference.
Symbolic Representations: Accuracy

Exceeds Expectations

All four diagrams are properly labeled and are clearly linked to the five types of chemical reactions.
Meets Expectations

Three of the diagrams are properly labeled and are clearly linked to the five types of chemical reactions.
Satisfactory

Two of the diagrams are properly labeled and are clearly linked to the five types of chemical reactions.
Limited

Less than two diagrams are properly labeled and are clearly linked to the five types of chemical reactions.
