Playing Position	Unsatisfactory Poor posture & and left & right hand positions are hindering good performance.	Needs Improvement Posture is poor and/or fingers need to be curved and/or left wrist is collapsed.	Satisfactory Posture adjustment is needed or there are several errors in hand position.	Very Good There is definite effort to exhibit correct posture. Minor adjustments are needed to bow hand or left hand.	Clear Excellence Excellent posture with correct left hand position and bow hold.
Accurate Pitches	Unsatisfactory No recognizable tune is present.	Needs Improvement Many notes are incorrect - student seems unfamiliar with the tune.	Satisfactory Shows a good feel for the notes in the piece but there are frequent or repeated small mistakes in pitch.	Very Good Mostly correct with a few slips. There may be small intonation problems.	Clear Excellence Pitches are correct and intonation is accurate.
Accurate Rhythm	Unsatisfactory No evidence of steady pulse	Needs Improvement Pulse is unstable with major rhythmic errors.	Satisfactory Pulse is fairly steady but there are frequent or repeated small rhythmic errors.	Very Good Steady pulse with few rhythmic errors	Clear Excellence Steady pulse with accurate rhythms
Bowing	Unsatisfactory No evidence that student is following bowing indications.	Needs Improvement Little response to bowing indications or difficulty with slur patterns.	Satisfactory Student usually follows the bowing indications but misses a few.	Very Good Most bowing is accurate with a few minor errors.	Clear Excellence All bowing indications are followed. Slurs & bow changes are accurate.
