Full Band Rehearsal Rubric 
This is used as an all-purpose organizer for 6th-8th grade band rehearsals. This outlines what students need to do to obtain top marks for the rehearsal assessment portion of their grade. NAFME Common Anchor Standard #4: Rehearse, Evaluate, and Refine (MU:Pr5.3.E)

Punctuality/Entrance Manners

(65-75) = D

Student is often late getting to rehearsal and does NOT have a pass. Student is regularly disruptive to other students while getting ready for class.
(76-84) = C

Student is on time getting to the music room, but takes too much time getting ready for rehearsal. Student sometimes purposefully interrupts others while getting ready for class.
(85-92)= B

Student is usually on time and quickly ready for rehearsal. If student is late, student has a pass, and gets ready quickly with few/minor interruptions to class.
(93-100) = A

Student is always or almost always on time and quickly ready for rehearsal. If student is late, student has a pass, and gets ready quickly without interrupting class at all.
Preparation for Success

(65-75) = D

Student usually forgets folder/music, or cannot locate folder in the band room. During warm up time, student usually plays with purposefully incorrect sound or in an inappropriate manner.
(76-84) = C

Student forgets to get out folder and may need to be reminded to go and get it. The student may need to be asked to open music more than once. During warm up time, student often plays with a purposefully incorrect sound, or in an inappropriate manner.
(85-92)= B

Student forgets to get the music folder, but quickly goes to get it when reminded, or quickly remembers on his/her own. Student warms up appropriately most of the time, with few reminders to play/practice correct sounds during warm up.
(93-100) = A

Student has the music folder out and ready as soon as he/she enters the music room. Student follows directions on the board, and puts music in order so as to be prepared for rehearsal. Student warms up appropriately daily by practicing scales, concert music, or solo/ensemble music.
Collaborative Rehearsal Skills

(65-75) = D

Student often speaks disrespectfully to teachers/peers. Student is inattentive.
He/she often is distracted, talks when others are talking, and/or does not demonstrate an appropriate level of effort in rehearsal. Student is regularly unable to positively collaborate during rehearsal. Student was disruptive to class and on one or more occasion, the student may have been asked to go to the hall on several occasions, time-out (one or more times) or to the office.
(76-84) = C

Student occasionally speaks disrespectfully to teachers and/or peers. Student displays an attentive effort for SOME of the rehearsal. Student is NOT consistently focused throughout the rehearsal and is unable to show that he/she is able to positively collaborate during rehearsal. There is a LOT of talking and the student had to be spoken to 2-3 times and asked to be a better listener. Student was asked to go to the hall on at least one occasion.
(85-92)= B

Student usually speaks respectfully to teachers and/or peers, and apologizes when necessary.
Student displays an attentive effort for most of the rehearsal. Student is mostly focused and shows that he/she is able to positively collaborate during rehearsal. There is some talking and the student had to be spoken to and asked to listen and play appropriately.
(93-100) = A

Student always speaks respectfully to teachers and/or peers. Student displays an attentive attitude and puts forth a high level of effort throughout the entire rehearsal. Student is always focused and shows that he/she is able to positively collaborate during rehearsal. There is little to no talking.
Rehearsal Technique

(65-75) = D

Student regularly refuses to demonstrate proper posture, even with reminders. The student knows very little of his/her part due to lack of practice and/or effort in rehearsal.
Student is usually in need of multiple reminders to bring instrument up and get ready to play when teacher is ready to begin conducting. Student is late on most entrances.
(76-84) = C

Student demonstrates poor posture and breath support, improves with reminders. The student has not been working on the music enough so he/she but still needs a lot of extra time drilling the parts during rehearsal. Student often needs to be reminded more than once to bring instrument up and get ready when teacher is ready to begin conducting.
(85-92)= B

Student demonstrates good posture and breath support. The student has been working on the music well in class and/or at home, but still needs some extra time drilling the parts during rehearsal. Student usually has instrument up and ready to play immediately when teacher is ready to begin conducting.
(93-100) = A

Student demonstrates excellent posture and breath support. The student has been working on the music so that not a lot of drill work needs to be done during rehearsal.
Student always or almost always has instrument up and ready to play immediately when teacher is ready to begin conducting.
