Landmarks on the casts

Ideal A

Landmarks should match those in the picture showed in the Lecture.

Landmarks accurately traced on the casts indicating: midline, crest of the ridge, anterior land area, incisal papilla, midpoint of the retromolar pad.
All marks must be trace with blue and red pencil.
Acceptable B

Posterior teeth arrangement is adequate to make a clinically acceptable complete denture.
Minor discrepancies from ideal criteria which do not compromise the quality of the clinical treatment.
Modifications C

Posterior teeth arrangements requires further alterations to be clinically acceptable.
Clinically Unacceptable E

Posterior teeth arrangement prevents clinically acceptable complete denture treatment.
Plane of Occlusion/ Incisal Edge

Ideal A

Occlusal plane reasonably oriented to anatomic landmarks.

Plane of the occlusion is perfectly aligned and flat with the midpoint of the retromolar pads bilaterally.
At the same level right and left sides.
Zero degree teeth set to exactly a flat plane.
Acceptable B

Posterior teeth arranged with minor discrepancies from ideal criteria which do not compromise the quality of the clinical treatment.
Modifications C

Occlusion plane obviously to high or too low.
Further modifications needed.

Buccal surfaces of premolars off line as drawn between first molar and cuspid by 2 mm.
Clinically Unacceptable E

Inadequate Plane of Occlusion/ Incisal Edge position.

Occlusal plane noticeably angled laterally or anterior posteriorly.
overall Teeth position

Ideal A

Mandibular teeth are placed first mandibular molars and premolars are placed directly over the ridge.
Posterior teeth arranged with proper esthetic inclination. In contact on buccal and lingual areas.
Posterior teeth central groove perfectly aligned with the central line directly over of the mandibular ridge
Acceptable B

Minor discrepancies from ideal criteria which do not compromise the quality of the clinical treatment.
Modifications C

Buccal surfaces of premolars off line as drawn between first molar and cuspid more than 2 mm.
Clinically Unacceptable E

Inadequate Teeth position/ long axis/ reverse/ rotation.

Mandibular molars not centered over mandibular ridge. Teeth grossly out of normal position.
Vertical and horizontal overlaps

Ideal A

Minimum of 1.5 mm of horizontal overlap of maxillary and mandibular molars and premolar.

Posterior teeth setting follow the anatomical natural arch form.
Acceptable B

Minor discrepancies from ideal criteria which do not compromise the quality of the clinical treatment.
Modifications C

Less than 1mm
Clinically Unacceptable E

No horizontal overlap between posterior teeth.
Wax contour & festooning

Ideal A

Waxed areas neat, clean, smooth, and properly festooned to simulate the natural healthy gums and dentition.
Acceptable B

Minor discrepancies from ideal criteria which do not compromise the quality of the clinical treatment.
Modifications C

Wax contour unnatural with some concavities in papilla areas.
Excessively thick or thin. Further modifications needed.
Clinically Unacceptable E

Inadequate or unaesthetic.
Too bulky to much wax contour.
Neatness

Ideal A

No wax on the teeth buccal, incisal, lingual or occlusal surfaces. No wax under record bases.
No wax on the articulator and casts clean.
Acceptable B

Minor discrepancies from ideal criteria which do not compromise the quality of the clinical treatment.

Some excess of wax contour of the teeth
Modifications C

No wax in occlusal surfaces, denture adhesive inside record base or and master cast. Compound extends beyond outline of posterior palatal seal.
Clinically Unacceptable E

Evidence of wax on the cast or articulator.
Teeth loose in wax.

Wax is dirty.
Cast damaged.
Incisal pin

Ideal A

Incisal pin at zero and touching the table.
Acceptable B

Minor discrepancies from ideal criteria which do not compromise the quality of the clinical treatment.

Incisal pin with 1 to 2mm more or less than ideal criteria.
Modifications C

Incisal pin with more or less than 3 mm.
Further modifications needed.
Clinically Unacceptable E

Incisal pin not touching table/wrong setting.
Posterior teeth occlusion

Ideal A

Neutrocentric occlusion with monoplane teeth.
Posterior teeth in occlusal contact.
Zero degrees teeth set to exactly a flat plane.
Acceptable B

Some minor contact discrepancies from ideal criteria which do not compromise the quality of the clinical treatment.
Modifications C

Minor discrepancies in inclination, flatness or position that affect the proper occlusal contacts.
Further modifications needed.
Clinically Unacceptable E

Monoplane teeth not set flat. Major discrepancies in contacts.
