Explanation of Scene	Poor The student did not connect any part of the book with their explanation, did not follow the directions given by the teacher fairly, many errors gramatically	Fair The student did a fair job on connecting the explanation of their painting to the story, but were missing a few key elements, few errors gramatically	Good The student connected the scene to their explanation perfectly, key elements of the story included, with little or no errors of their writing and spelling
Student's Painting	Poor The student did not connect their painting to a scene from the book, did not use a lot of color, and put forth little effort	Fair The student only connected to one part of a scene, not a whole one, used few colors, but not many, put forth fair amount of effort	Good The student connected his/her scene perfectly to a scene in the story and used bright colors, was extremely creative and put forth great effort
