Tone	Exemplary The student's tone is dark, rich and is characteristic of the instrument.	Proficient The student's tone is dark and characteristic of the instrument, but could use some attention on long tones and listening.	Developing The student's tone is adequate, but needs attention on long tones, listening and matching with other instruments.	Beginning The student's tone is airy, thin and requires focus and breath control.
Tempo	Exemplary Student plays at a tempo of 170 beats per minute or faster (Presto). The tempo is steady and accurate.	Proficient Student plays at a tempo of 120 to 169 beats per minute (Allegro). The tempo is steady and accurate.	Developing Student plays at a tempo of 81 to 119 beats per minute (Andante/Moderato) AND/OR the tempo may be unsteady.	Beginning Student plays at a tempo of less than 80 beats per minute AND/OR the tempo may be unsteady.
