Elements of Plot	Highly Proficient Contains all elements of a narrative: Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution. Skillfully develops conflict, setting and maintains point of view.	Proficient May be missing 1-2 elements of a narrative. Conflict, setting, or point of view may not be obvious or maintained.	Partially Proficient May be missing three or more element of a narrative. Conflict, setting or point of view may be difficult to identify.	Minimally Proficient Does not contain the elements of a narrative. Conflict, setting or point of view are not not included.
Choice/Consequence/Lesson	Highly Proficient The narrative skillfully includes the authors choice, the consequences of that choice and the lesson learned from the experience.	Proficient The narrative includes the author's choice, consequences and lesson, but are presented in an obvious manner. (ie: "I made a choice", "the consequences were", "I learned that")	Partially Proficient The choice, consequences or lesson learned are difficult to identify in the narrative.	Minimally Proficient The choice, consequences and/or lesson learned are not included in the narrative.
Figurative Language	Highly Proficient Figurative language and sensory details are skillfully used throughout the narrative to enhance the story.	Proficient Some attempt is made to use figurative language and sensory details within the narrative.	Partially Proficient Minimal attempt is made to use figurative language and sensory details within the narrative.	Minimally Proficient No figurative language is used in the narrative.
Conventions	Highly Proficient Minimal to no errors in spelling, capitalization, grammar and punctuation. MLA format is followed. 1-4 convention errors	Proficient Some errors in spelling, capitalization, grammar and punctuation, but does not detract from readability or content. MLA format is attempted. 5-7 convention errors	Partially Proficient Errors in spelling, capitalization, grammar, and punctuation that affect readability and/or content. MLA format has several errors. 7 or more convention errors.	Minimally Proficient Demonstrates limited command of conventions. MLA format is not followed.
