color theory

Accomplished 4

Student was able to create a range of tones, tints and shades, as well as accurate selections from Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colors
Skilled 3

Student was able to successfully draw upon previous knowledge to create realistic color tones (most) for recognizable images. Bun color is true to life: not too light nor too dark. Student was able to recreate tones, tints, and shades where needed. The creation of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colors is mainly true, but may have some errors (no more than 2)
Emerging 2

Student was able to successfully draw upon previous knowledge to create close to realistic color tones for recognizable images. Bun color may be too dark or too light though to look "true to life". Students has attempted shades, tints and tones, but may have a few areas that may need tweaked (no more than 4). Student has attempted to recreate Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colors, but may need to look at notes or require some, limited assistance.
Limited 1

Students color mixes are not consistent with real-life or is off in many areas: serious issues are seen in the creation of tints, shades and tones- equations are off. Additionally, students has weak recreated Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colors (more than 4) and the colors have an overall effect of "muddying"
Elements of Art

Accomplished 4

Painting has good balance and little negative space. Positive space is emphasized and creates a visual story for the viewer. The piece has great unity: theme is predominate and well planned. Fine details prevail throughout the entire piece, and add to the overall unity.
Skilled 3

Painting has nice balance and good use of positive and negative space. Overall there is a sense of unity among the theme. Details are a key part of the finial work, while adding to the overall idea of the work, some details may be lost due to minor errors in application.
Emerging 2

Painting is laid out well, but may have more negative space than needed for true balance. Theme is present but details would put it to the next level. General understanding of the elements can be seen but student may still need reinforcement and practice to gain mastery.
Limited 1

Painting is too small for the space creating a large amount of negative space, distracting from the positive aspects of the objects. The lack of details makes the unity of the piece hard to follow.

Emerging 2

Student has a finished piece that has some blemishes but they are not interfering with viewing: student would benefit from proofing the piece before turning it in for grade-More time on clean up would improve this piece. Small errors with some, but not all of the mediums used.
Limited 1

Students has many blemishes that interfere with the overall concept or viewing of the piece: pencil marks easily seen or tears/rips in paper or paint drips visible, and so on. Control of mediums is at an entry level, more practice is needed for mastery.
