Artist Parody 
Students will create a Parody of a Master painting, creatively altering elements to engage the viewer in subtle changes of the original composition. Students will use knowledge and skill in creating their parody. An Artist's Statement will be written to Describe and Interpret their work.

The student chose a challenging Master work to parody. The parody and subtle changes in subject matter is totally the concept of the student. The artwork demonstrates original personal expression and outstanding problem solving skills.
Strong

The student chose a somewhat challenging Master work to parody. Some subject matter is subtly changed and is the concept of the student. The artwork demonstrates strong personal expression and strong problem solving skills.
Good

Student chose an interesting Master work to parody. Subject matter in composition is changed through suggestions of the instructor. The artwork demonstrates some personal expression and logical problem solving skills.
Moderate

Student chose a non-challenging Master work to parody. Student transformed the human to animal characteristics in the composition but did not alter any other elements for interest. Work shows moderate personal expression and moderate problem solving skills.
Weak

Student did not choose a Master work for the parody project. Teacher directed the choice. Student did not change any elements in the composition except for the exchange of animal for human characteristics. Weak personal expression and problem solving skills.
Poor

Student made very little attempt to create a parody inspired by a Master work.

Medium is used with moderate skill and only moderately represents the style of the masterpiece. Some understanding of utilizing skills and techniques to express their idea is present.
Weak

Weak use of the medium. Little understanding of utilizing skills and techniques to express their idea is present.

Student made very little attempt to develop the craft of the medium or stretching to explore the concepts.

Student mostly challenge self to reflect, persist, revise and improve. The artwork shows good craftsmanship but could show more attention to control and adaptation of the medium.
Moderate

Student only periodically reflected and persisted through problems. Some revisions were made to improve the work. Craftsmanship lacks quality in regard to control and adaptation of the medium.
Weak

Student rarely reflected on problems encountered in this process. Few revisions were made and then only at the insistence of the instructor. Craftsmanship is weak.
