Is the student singing the correct pitches? This includes observation of the key signature.
Exemplary

All pitches and intervals are correct. Student stays on pitch, and does not fall to a lower key.
Proficient

Less than three pitches are incorrect and/or less than three intervals are sung out of tune.
Developing

Less than five pitches are incorrect and/or less than five intervals are sung out of tune. Student's pitch may drop
Emerging

Six or more pitches are incorrect and/or six or more intervals are sung out of tune. Student does not stay in key.
Rhythm

Is the student singing the correct rhythms? This includes the observation of written rests.
Exemplary

All rhythms are correct, and are sung without hesitation.
Proficient

All but one rhythms are correct.
Developing

All but two or three rhythms are correct.
Emerging

Four or more rhythms are incorrect.
Steady Beat and Tempo

Is the student singing with an even, appropriate steady beat? Tempo is determined by teacher's ability to tap steady beat along with student performance.
Exemplary

Student sings with an even, appropriate steady beat.
Proficient

Student sings with an even, appropriate steady beat at least 90% of the time.
Developing

Student sings with an even, appropriate steady beat at least 75% of the time; some note values are uneven, and it is difficult at times to determine tempo.
Emerging

Student does not sing with a steady beat; note values are uneven and tempo cannot be determined.
