Mostly good left hand shape. Fingers are somewhat curved and intonation is mostly good. Almost all notes are correct.
Fair
Some problems with left hand shape. Fingers are not curved consistently and/or intonation is poor. Some notes are incorrect.
Poor
Poor left hand shape. Fingers are flat and intonation is very poor. Several notes are wrong. Needs individual attention.
Articulation Accuracy
Exemplary
All bowings including bow lifts are correct. Correct bowing technique is used throughout.
Acceptable
Almost all bowings are observed. Correct bowing technique is attempted, though may not be perfectly executed.
Fair
Some bowings are observed. Bowing technique is sometimes incorrect.
Poor
Many bowing errors are observed. Bowing technique is incorrect throughout. Needs individual attention.
Tone & Bow Technique
Exemplary
Excellent ringing tones. Playing is very confident with a strong sound. Bow is straight. Bow hold is correct and relaxed.
Acceptable
Some ringing tones. Playing is fairly confident with a somewhat strong sound. Bow is usually straight. Bow hold is mostly correct but may be slightly tight/incorrect.
Fair
Few ringing tones. Playing is somewhat secure with a weakened sound. Bow contact point is inconsistent. Bow hold needs improvement.
Poor
No ringing tones. Playing is tentative with a weak sound. Bow contact point is inconsistent and bow hold is poor. Needs individual attention.
Dynamics/musicianship
Exemplary
Plays all dynamic markings accurately with musical expression.
Acceptable
Plays most dynamic markings accurately. Some expression is evident, but more musicality is needed.
Fair
Few dynamic markings observed.
Musical expression is lacking.
Poor
No dynamic changes are performed and musical expression is absent.
