Spelling	Poor Student is unable to spell word correctly.	Fair Student can spell initial and ending sound of word correctly. -OR- Can spell word correctly after verbal cues from teacher.	Good Student spells word correctly independently based on picture and phonics skills.
Segmenting Sounds	Poor Student cannot associate any sound with letters.	Fair Student can associate 1-2 letter sounds correctly.	Good Student can associate all 3 CVC letters sounds correctly.
Blending Sounds	Poor Student is unable to blend any sounds.	Fair Student can blend beginning or ending sounds.	Good Student blends all sounds together.
