Speaks clearly - eye contact

Speak clearly, properly, politely, and recognize the difference between formal
and informal language.

Advanced

Speaks clearly using formal language, emotion, excitement, and pauses when needed. Looks at the audience most of the time, referring to notes occasionally.
Proficient

Speaks audibly, using some slang.
Uses some emotional expression in voice tones, and looks up at the audience from time to time.
Partially Proficient

Speaks quietly. Listener has to work to hear.
Uses slang or "ums" often.
Monotone voice. Looks up only briefly.
Unsatisfactory

Speaks so quietly that listeners often cannot hear.

Answers questions incorrectly, or cannot answer questions. Does not seem to have comprehended huge chunks of the story.

Is able to accurately explain the plot, different main characters, and the setting of the story. Includes author, name of book, and a conclusion with opinion of the book.

Is able to explain important parts of the plot and mentions the main characters.
Includes name of book and author, and a short opinion of the book.
Partially Proficient

Does not give one or more of the following:
1- an accurate account of the plot.
2- main characters
3- author or book name
4- opinion of the book
Unsatisfactory

Is unable to tell the plot of the story in any detail.
Demonstrates an Opinion

Is able to offer and support an opinion of the book

Advanced

Clearly states an opinion of the literature and can support that opinion with several examples from the book without prompting
Proficient

States an opinion of the book and can offer an example to support that opinion without prompting
Partially Proficient

Opinion of the book is unclear or student needs prompting in either stating or supporting that opinion.
Unsatisfactory

Unable to offer an opinion of the book or support it with examples.
