The student does not maintain consistent eye contact with watching the ball leave the pitchers hand and does not watch the ball make contact with the bat. Student usually does not make contact with the ball.

The student maintains eye contact with the release from the pitchers hand but does not make solid contact with the ball. Student will often foul the ball off but does maintain eye contact with watching the ball make contact with the bat.
excellent
The student's eyes are always watching the release from the pitcher's hand and watches the ball while swinging. The student watches the ball make contact with the bat and often makes solid line drives or deep fly balls.
Batting approach
Poor
The student's stance is off center. The student could be stepping with the wrong foot, or crowd the plate, or be too far from the plate.
good
The student may step with the wrong foot occasionally but mostly steps correctly. The student usually maintains the proper distance from the plate and has a pretty good ability to see good pitches.
excellent
The student is in proper batting stance. The student steps with the correct foot. The student also maintains correct postion in batter's box. The student also has the correct view of pitches.
