Inconsistently describes the music mentioning the basic elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, style, etc. May only have a few comments.
At Expectations

Sufficiently describes the music mentioning the basic elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, style, etc.
Above Expectations

Exceptionally describes the music mentioning the basic elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, style, etc. Description is complete and may include higher order thinking.
Significantly Above Expectations

Masterfully describes the music mentioning the basic elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, style, etc. Description is thorough and includes higher order thinking or thinking "outside the box". May also include descriptions of the mood or the way the music makes them feel.
Compare/Contrast

When two or more pieces have been used.

Insufficiently compares/contrasts the music. Students is unable to find anything that is different between the music.

Sufficiently compares/contrasts the music. Students finds a few items to contrast that are within the elements of music.
Above Expectations

Exceptionally compare/contrasts the music. Student finds several items to contrast between two pieces that include elements of music. Comment require higher order thinking.
Significantly Above Expectations

Masterfully compare/contrasts the music. Student finds multiple items to contrast between two pieces that include elements of music as well as mood, feelings, visual performance, and may also think "outside the box" to find items that are not so obvious to the listener.
