Setting	Poor Student did not develop setting/setting was confusing and hard to follow.	Fair Student partially developed setting.	Good Student developed setting but did not delve into setting material.	Excellent Student deeply developed setting and utilized it to move story along.
Characters	Poor Student did not have any characters present within the story.	Fair Student had few characters present in story, but they were underused and not developed.	Good Student had some characters present and developed them well.	Excellent Student had multiple characters present, all with development and passionate characterization.
Writing	Poor Student had multiple writing mistakes within the story that made the story hard to follow.	Fair Student had multiple writing mistakes within the story, but the story was still comprehensible.	Good Student had few writing mistakes that did not affect comprehension of story.	Excellent Student had no writing mistakes within the story.
Overall theme	Poor Student did not develop an overall them of the story.	Fair Student had an idea of overall theme of the story, but did not develop correctly.	Good Student had an overall theme for the story but did not develop it to its full potential.	Excellent Student had an overall theme for the story and developed it fully.
