Speaking Interview Rubric

Adapted from Level B2 Cambridge English Speaking Test

This is a five-question speaking interview designed to assess Grade 9 ESL students’ ability to communicate in English. The test evaluates fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, vocabulary, and interaction through structured oral responses.

Fluency	Excellent Speaks smoothly with natural pacing and minimal pauses	Good Mostly fluent with some hesitation during extended responses.	Fair Frequent pauses but message is clear. Speech is fragmented	Needs to improve Unable to speak continuously
Accuracy	Excellent Demonstrates accurate grammatical control with 0–1 minor error.	Good 2–3 errors, meaning always clear	Fair Frequent 4-5 errors and some fragmented speech, but the message remains clear.	Needs to improve Errors consistently block meaning
Pronunciation / Intelligibility	Excellent Clear, natural pronunciation and intonation throughout the interview.	Good Pronunciation is mostly clear, with occasional mispronunciation.
