Note Accuracy Is the student playing the correct notes? This includes observation of the key signature.	Excellent All notes are correct, and fingerings are switched without hesitation.	Good Less than three notes are incorrect. Fingerings are always or mostly switched without hesitation.	Learning Less than five notes are incorrect. Student sometimes hesitates or fumbles when switching fingerings.	Beginner Six or more notes are incorrect. Student frequently hesitates or fumbles when switching fingerings.
Rhythm Is the student playing the correct rhythms? This includes the observation of written rests.	Excellent All rhythms are correct, and played without hesitation.	Good All but one rhythms are correct.	Learning All but two or three rhythms are correct.	Beginner Four or more rhythms are incorrect.
Steady Beat and Tempo Is the student playing with an even, appropriate steady beat?	Excellent Student plays with an even, appropriate steady beat.	Good Student plays with an even, appropriate steady beat at least 90% of the time.	Learning Student plays with an even, appropriate steady beat at least 75% of the time; some note values are uneven, and it is difficult at times to determine tempo.	Beginner Student does not play with a steady beat; note values are uneven and tempo cannot be determined.
Articulation Does the student begin each note with a "ta" tongue? Does the student observe all written articulation markings, such as staccato and slurs?	Excellent Student begins each note with a "ta" tongue. Student also observes all written articulation markings, and unmarked notes are tongued appropriately.	Good Student begins each note with a "ta" tongue. Student observes all but one articulation markings, and unmarked notes are mostly tongued appropriately.	Learning Student sometimes begins each note with a "ta" tongue. Student observes all but two or three articulation markings, and makes and attempt to tongue unmarked notes appropriately.
