Giving Commands	Exemplary The candidate uses a full "command" voice to give commands in tempo and with authority	Proficient The candidate uses a moderate "command" voice to give to give commands in tempo and with some authority	Developing The candidate uses a smaller voice to give commands	Beginning The candidate gives commands with a small voice that may be hard to hear from the back of the band
Conducting	Exemplary The candidate demonstrates conducting with sharp moves that can be followed easily by all members of the band block	Proficient The candidate demonstrates conducting with good moves and can be followed by most members of the band block	Developing The candidate demonstrates conducting with some precision, may be misinterpreted by the band block	Beginning The candidate demonstrates little precision in conducting, must improve this for the band block
Responsibility	Exemplary The candidate has demonstrated perfect performance and rehearsal attendance as a performer, would do the same as drum major	Proficient The candidate has missed or been late to only 1 or 2 performances or rehearsals at NHS, with advanced notice; is likely to attend all performances as drum major	Developing The candidate has missed or been late to 3 to 5 performances or rehearsals at NHS, needs to prove reliability as drum major	Beginning The candidate has missed or been late to more than 5 performances or rehearsals at NHS, MUST prove reliability to be selected drum major
