Principles of Art Design 
Student will create a design that demonstrates each principle of art (balance, variety, harmony , emphasis, proportion, movement, rhythm, pattern, and unity) in a specified rectangle. The design should demonstrate an understanding of the principles of art through the arrangement of lines, shapes, colosr, patterrn, and space. Students are encouraged to incorporate symbols and elements that reflect their personality and interests.

Level 1

The student shows an undeveloped knowledge and application of design elements and principles (Use of color, balance, visual rhythm, harmony, unity , etc...) and shows no creativity in design. (No additional details or design)
Level 2

The student shows a developing knowledge and application of design elements and principles (Use of color, balance, visual rhythm, harmony, unity, etc...) and shows some creativity in design.
Level 3

The student demonstrates knowledge and application of design elements and principles (Use of color, balance, visual rhythm, harmony, unity, etc...) and shows creativity in design.
Level 4

The student shows an advanced knowledge and application of design elements and principles (Use of color, balance, visual rhythm, harmony, unity, variety, etc...) and shows excellent creativity in design.
Follows directions

Level 1

The student does not follow the directions.
Level 2

The student follows the direction with some deviation.
Level 3

The student follows the directions with no deviation.
Level 4

The student follows the directions precisely with no deviation.
Craftsmanship

Neatness demonstrated through designing, drawing, painting, using markers, gluing and neatly labeling.

Level 1

The student does not make efforts to neatly use art materials.
Level 2

Craftmanship and neatness is not consistant.
Level 3

The student demonstrates good craftmanship and neatness when using chosen art materials.
Level 4

Excellent craftsmanship is demonstrated throughout the process of the project.
Attitude/Use of Class Time

Level 1

Student is at times argumentive and/or uninvolved.
Level 2

Student is distracted and /or not doing assignment and needs reminders about task. Talking more than working in a distracting way.
Level 3

Student demonstrates good attitude and redirection is rare.
Level 4

Student demonstrates excellent attitude and work skills.
Student Citizenship

Level 1

Student has much difficulty following classroom rules.
Level 2

Student needs reminders to follow rules like reading the "Do Now" directions , bringing a pencil, and/or working quietly.
Level 3

Student follows class rules well, redirection is rare.
Level 4

Student follows all classroom rules independently.
