Assessment for Use	Proficient Student assesses indication and contraindications for the use of ultrasound. Identifies is pt. is a good candidate for US.	Basic Student does not consider all indications and contraindications. Does not provide clear reasoning for use of US.	Below Basic Student does not identify any indications or contraindications for use of US.
Preparation	Proficient Student instructs patient on procedure, cleans the treatment area and equipment, correctly positions and drapes the treatment area as necessary.	Basic Student provides confusing explanation for the procedure and does not effectively position or drape the patient. It may be effective, but does not meet the highest standard.	Below Basic Student does not explain procedure. Student is not mindful of patient privacy with draping or patient is not comfortable in the position for application.
Treatment Area	Proficient Student correctly identifies where to apply treatment. Treats an appropriate sized area for the size of the sound head. Avoids areas that are inappropriate.	Basic Applies treatment to an area too small or big for the sound head. Does not effectively cover affected area.	Below Basic Student applies treatment to an inappropriate area, such as near eye or bony prominence causing discomfort.
Application	Proficient Student applies sufficient gel to prevent irritation and moves sound head at an appropriate speed..	Basic Student does not use appropriate amount of gel and moves sound head too fast or too slow.	Below Basic Student does not use gel or does not move sound head causing discomfort or burn.
Clean Up	Proficient Student cleans the treatment area and equipment.	Basic	Below Basic Student does not clean the treatment area or does not clean the equipment.
