Mastering the Grid Method Pencil Self Portrait Using the Grid Method Students draw a larger scaled version of: a Renaissance image for potential bonus points a duplication of a simper drawing for grade. Using the Grid method The drawing paper was divided into perfect squares. The student looked at the grid on the copy and reproduced the image exactly as seen in the copy.	Poor Did not use the grid to place lines and features for the portrait or needed the teacher to draw the grid for the student.	Fair Only a few areas not placed correctly	Good Good placement using the grid method	Mastery Excellent placement of grid method and there was excellent detail	Above and Beyond Grid work was perfect. Student chose to do the Renaissance challenge and exceeded in expectations on all points.
Shading & Detail Shading and other linear detail were used to enhance areas as close to the copy as possible.	Poor The drawing was not shaded or detailed in any way.	Fair Some areas were shaded-and some were not. The drawing was shaded using one value and there was minimal amount of any linear detail.	Good There is a full range of values. The shading is gradual and realistic with the use of other linear detail.	Mastery There is a full range of values. The shading is gradual and realistic. Shading was near perfect with the use of other linear detail.	Above and Beyond Shading,value study, and linear detail were exemplary.
