Long rope jumping is an excellent activity for beginning jumpers. Students can concentrate on jumping the rope.

Turning Rope

Poor

Student does not keep the elbow close to the body. Thumb moves during the moving motion. Does not keep the body perpendicular to the rope

Student does not concentrate on turning the rope. Does not keep the body perpendicular to rope.
Good

Student keeps the elbow close to the body. The thumb stays up during the turning of the rope. Holds the rope in front of the body at wrist level and keeps the body perpendicular to the rope.
Jumping the Rope

Poor

Student does not use small continuous jumps. Student jumps high.Student does not jump on the balls of the feet. Student does not start in the center of the rope. Student can jump over the rope once.
Fair

Student does not jump on the balls of the feet. Student does not start at the center of the rope. Student can only jump over the rope 2-5 times consecutively.
Good

Student starts in the center of the rope. Student jumps on the balls of the feet. Student uses small continuous jumps. Student can jump 5 or more times consecutively.
