Song Character Speech

Students select an appropriate song and provide class with lyrics. Students will give a speech (3-5 minutes in length) from one of the song character's point of view, detailing meaning of the song, why the song was written, etc.

Character Representation	Excellent Student interpreted and incorporated details of song into character's story in a very believable manner. Song character came to life. Presentation enhanced audience's understanding of song choice.	Good Student interpreted and incorporated some details but presentation lacked believability. Song character came to life at times.	Poor Student did not interpret or incorporate details from song choice. Seemed more like a report on the song. Song character never emerged. Meaning was not enhanced.
Voice	Excellent Volume and rate were appropriate to presentation.	Good Volume was low in places and or student rate was inconsistent in places.	Poor It was hard for audience to hear at times. Rate made it difficult for audience to follow.
Eye Contact	Excellent Student made eye-contact with all members of the audience and drew them into their presentation.	Good Student made eye-contact with most of the audience and drew them into their presentation at those times.	Poor Student looked down or only looked at select people (as in the teacher) or in only one direction.
Body Language/Poise	Excellent Student had relaxed facial expressions and seemed confident and at ease. Motions enhanced presentation.	Good Student looked at ease most of the time. There were times of seeming uncomfortable or uncertain. Some behaviors were evidenced that neither enhanced nor distracted the audience.	Poor Student looked uncomfortable. Motions were distracting.
