Student actively assists in dressing, but still needs physical assistance to don/doff clothing.

Student is largely independent in dressing, but may need assistance with fasteners or tying shoes. May need verbal cues as to next step needed, or to hurry up.

Student is independent and needs no cues for any phase of dressing.

Student carries their belongings into the locker room without cues, and pulls belongings out independently, but does not take responsibility for belongings after that. Needs cues to pack up clothing in swim bag and to place bag into locker. Needs reminders as to which locker is utilized.

Student packs bag without reminders, but does not scan area to insure no items have been lost. Places bag in a locker after reminders, but is able to find it independently following swimming.

Student independently carries bag into locker room, removes swimming items and repacks with street clothes (and the reverse after swimming). and stows in/retrieves from locker, all without requiring any further cues.
Interactions with rec center staff

Skill not evident

Student does not interact with rec staff in any meaningful way; for example does not make eye contact or offer pass for entrance to pool.
Poor

With hand-over-hand assistance, student offers swim pass to rec center staff to gain entrance to pool.
Fair

Student is able to offer pass to rec center staff independently. Does not verbalize with rec staff or make eye contact.
Good

Offers pass independently; makes eye contact; smiles and says thank you. Does not interact with pool staff.
Proficient/skill accomplished

Offers pass independently; making eye contact and smiling. Interacts with pool staff and able to request for items or services such as turning on the slide or asking for life vest.
Swim skills

Student requires the use of a personal flotation device (PFD) and contact guard, one-on-one assistance at all times in the pool.
Poor

Student utilizes a PFD, but accesses the shallow portion of the pool with arm's length supervision by an adult. May ride down the slide accompanied by an adult.

Student accesses all portions of the pool, including the slide, independently while wearing a PFD.
