Foundations Clay Vessel

Students will create a sculpture out of clay that can contain something in some way. This vessel should be based on a memory and what, or how it contains can be related to that personal connection.

Concept The idea and the creation in 3D were intentional and made sense for the required material. The student has considered the details that are needed to make this look realistic and identifiable.	Poor Sculpting is uneven, messy, thick and rough.	Fair Sculpting has several uneven, messy, thick and rough areas.	Good Sculpting has a few uneven, messy and rough areas.	Excellent Sculpting is neatly done, smooth, and even. Very nice job.
Sculpting Requirements and Procedures The sculpture had to have some opening to contain an object of student's choice. The student interpreted their vessel in a 3D manner and was careful to score slip and consider clay thickness for the success of their project.	Poor Appears as though the student paid little attention to the criteria that was covered at the beginning of the assignment.	Fair The student did not cover all of the criteria expected for this project.	Good Student covered most of the criteria covered for this project.	Excellent Student did cover all expectations on the criteria for this project.
Craftsmanship Student made intensional choices and carefully worked on the sculpting of the clay, the drying process, and the finish of their project including paint and sealing.	Poor Little effort; did not use adequate amount of clay given and did not complete sculpture.	Fair Some effort looks incomplete or did not follow guidelines.	Good Good effort; used most of clay to complete the sculpture.	Excellent Exceptional effort. Used all of almost all of clay to complete the sculpture.
Use Studio Time Student was focused during studio time. They were considerate of the clay drying time, working and clean up procedures. They complete the required clay up and care for clay appropriately.	Poor Did not follow any studio, clay, or clean-up procedures.	Fair Did not use class time effectively did not follow clean-up or clay care procedures.	Good Used some class time effectively and did not disturb others. followed almost all of the procedures with clay in the art room.	Excellent Used all class time effectively and followed all procedures with clay in the art room.
