Fair

Parts of the song choice may share relation to the story, but musical analysis may be undeveloped or loosely related to the story.
Good

The song choice is purposeful, but may include extraneous concepts that take away from the overall theme of the story. Musical analysis may include extraneous or some unrelated material.
Excellent

The song choice is clearly and purposefully revealed with in-depth analysis and musical samples that emphasize the plot of the story.
Written Analysis

Poor

The writing summarizes the events in the story while providing little to no analysis or synthesis in relation to the story.
Fair

The writing provides some analysis of the mood/tone of the story, while including some analysis. The analysis/synthesis may not be in-depth, but rather loosely related.
Good

Illustrates the relationship between mood and tone but may not clearly address the relationship to the theme in the story. Analysis and synthesis may be purposeful, but include extraneous material.
Excellent

The writing clearly illustrates the relationship between mood/tone and theme in the story while analyzing aspects of the selection which highlight this notion.

The student attempts to address mood and tone by only focusing on overall topics (i.e. violence, action) without analyzing the mood and tone of the song in relation to the story.

The student shows certain aspects of mood and tone through general statements and general concepts that may befit the text, but only in a superficial sense.
Good

The student illustrates certain aspects of the mood and tone of the story through lyrics or instrumentation, but may not provide adequate insight to the connection between these concepts.
Excellent

The student clearly illustrates the mood and tone of the story, through lyrics, instrumentation, and/or overall message of the song. The written portion emphasizes these literary concepts.
Presentation

Poor

The presentation is either not done by the individual/group or the presenters only read the script without addressing the elements of the assignment. The presentation is drab and rushed carelessly.
Fair

The presentation is completed, but the presenters may not address the audience and the reader only dictates the writing. The presentation may suffer from grammatical errors of slipshod writing.
Good

The presentation goes hand in hand with the conepts of mood and tone. The writers show the emotions and range of the characters with little to no errors or dependence on the reading. The presentation is developed.
Excellent

The presentation is clear, purposeful, and paired with the writing. The presenters each fill some particular task and illustrate the events of the story through their presentation. The presentation is engaging and well-developed.
