Landscape Painting Rubric Landscape Painting Rubric Students were randomly given a photographic landscape image. Their job was to expand it into a greater landscape in which the original image will become a small, though integral part of the larger image. The Entire Canvas is filled	BEG The canvas has a large portion of white left unpainted.	DEV A small amount of white is left on the canvas.	ACH There is little or no white left on the canvas.	EXC The entire canvas is filled beautifully with no white spots left unless they were added later with white paint.
The effort put into the painting	BEG The student did not even attempt to do their best work there for it is a poor painting.	DEV The student put in a minimal amount of work into their painting.	ACH The student worked well on their painting but could have done a little bit more to finish it.	EXC The student did their best work. The painting was of great quality for that students ability.
There are a wide variety of colors or you have choosen a theme for color	BEG There are few colors and no colors mixed.	DEV There is a minimal amount of colors and a few colors mixed.	ACH There are a large amount of colors used many of them mixed.	EXC There are a wide variety of colors used and many were mixed on their own.
The piece is well balanced Does your eye travel around the painting?	BEG The piece does not have balance.	DEV The piece is slightly balanced. With a few areas of interest.	ACH The piece is balanced, with trees, hills, flowers, or mountains, giving the piece equal weight.	EXC The piece is very well balanced using trees, hills, flowers, or mountains. The horizon line is in the middle of the paper.
