Foundations: Printmaking Project

Student's were assigned to create a set of 5 prints from an EZCarve Relief Block. They created images of animals after doing a visualization exercise. Student were also asked to present their work at the highest level of craftsmanship.

Understanding 30 pts Students were to demonstrate their understanding using carving tools and relief plate	Exceeding The artwork is planned carefully; understanding of all concepts and instructions is clearly shown. Student has clearly shown growth in skill level and design ability Student's line quality is excellent. The carved marks capture and interpret the animal's texture on their body. Materials have different qualities, example: fur as a opposed to eyeballs are approached with different strategies.	Fully Meeting The artwork is planned carefully; understanding of most concepts and instructions is shown. Student has shown some growth in skill level and design ability. Student did some line work when carving to create a sense of texture. More of this work would help enhance the texture of the animal.	Meeting The art work is planned adequately; understanding of some concepts and instructions shown. There has been some growth but the student still needs to work on developing their carving technique. Very little line quality or consideration when carving is evident in the work. More attention to detail would bring the animal to life.	Minimally Meeting The artwork shows little evidence of understanding the concepts and instructions. Student has not shown growth in skill level and design ability. There was almost no intentional texture incorporated in the design. Student needs to work and look more closely at subject and how to connect these ideas to the viewer.
Color Schemes 20 pts Choices of color and combination of background paper and ink colors.	Exceeding Colors are selected carefully and have a direct relationship or correspondence to the subject matter. Student has developed a keen understanding of hue and the inclusion of subtle changes in color are evident in this work.	Fully Meeting Student did not always create an exact color correspondence, but did try to manipulate and experiment with the inks. There are areas of the work that are very successful, and others that need improvement.	Meeting Student's prints show multiple instances where the colors do not relate to each other or the subject matter, but their work suggests that an attempt was made. The colors may be only slightly discordant.	Minimally Meeting The colors selected have no connection to each other or to the subject matter. The colors are discordant or seemingly haphazard. Student's artwork is not a clear reflection of their understanding of the unit's purpose.
Craftsmanship/ Skill 20 pts Execution of Ideas, application of products. Artwork is clean. The lines are carefully created considering the final product.	Exceeding The artwork shows outstanding craftsmanship,with clear attention to detail. The prints are neat and not messy. Stray marks and fingerprints are not present.	Fully Meeting The artwork shows good craftsmanship, with some attention to detail.	Meeting The artwork shows average craftsmanship and attention to detail. More care could have been taken in applying ink and making impressions. It was not overtly messy but looks rushed.
