Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class participation grade will be developed. All students are expected to participate in class! Students should understand that their participation mark begins at 0 and then is built up through active participation.

Student is an active participant in every class session.

Student asks appropriate questions and/or contributes to the class discussion every week.

Student asks appropriate questions and/or contributes to the class discussion almost every week.

Student asks an appropriate question and/or contributes to the class discussion once in a while
Poor

Student does not ask an appropriate question and/or contribute to the class discussion.
GROUP INVOLVEMENT

Student is a full participant in group activities.

Student promptly forms group and takes a leadership role in dyad and group activities.

Student displays cell phone or other materials that are not used in the class twice.

Student displays cell phone or other materials that are not used in the class three or more times/ asked to leave the class.
ATTENTION

Student is alert and attentive in class.

Excellent

Student pays close attention to class as demonstrated by ability to answer questions and engage in discussion.
Good

Student usually pays attention to class as demonstrated by answering question when asked, eyes always open.
Fair

Student appears to be asleep during class once as demonstrated by eyes closed, cannot answer question when asked.
Poor

Student appears to be asleep during class more than once, cannot answer question when asked, head on desk and/or eyes closed.
