Bloom's Taxonomy-Preschool Level

This rubric applies Bloom's Taxonomy at the preschool level to be used in observing students early receptive/expressive language skills while engaged in structured classroom activities with new and unfamiliar common objects and toys. I is designed to be used in assessing preschoolers with a disability.

Creating	Poor The student does not observe play and needs hand over hand assistance to use new items functionally and to complete any structured tasks.	Fair The student observes and imitates creative play of staff/peer models with new items. The child completes a craft with some staff assistance with a given set of materials.	Good The student plays with new items and integrates his/her own creative play. S/he follows instructions to complete a craft with a given set of materials.
Analyzing	Poor The student is uninterested in using new items.	Fair The student observes staff/peer engaged in play with new items, enjoys looking at pictures and listening to stories.	Good As the student observes staff/peer playing with new items, looks at pictures and listens to stories, s/he asks questions to gain information and clarification.
Applying	Poor The student does not functionally use common items.	Fair The student demonstrates functional use of items trough play and imitation.	Good The students plays and comments using newly learned vocabulary integrated with previous understanding.
Understanding	Poor The student cannot receptively identify objects or pictures of nouns/ verbs in his/her environment. The student is uninterested in exploring new materials	Fair The student can receptively identify objects and pictures of common nouns/verbs and is engaged in looking at new items.	Good The students enjoys looking at new items and can expressively label common nouns and verbs.
Remembering	Poor The student does not exhibit awareness of his/her surrounding. S/he does not reach for or use objects in a functional way.	Fair The student is aware of his/her environment, visually scans objects/pictures in response to teacher instruction.	Good The student repeats words heard during instructions, looks at pictures and repeats adult models.
