Student struggles to identify individual phonemes when sounding out words with simple CVC words.
Requires Support

Student is able to identify the phoneme but needs some help when blending it together. Struggles with CCV but is rather confident with CVC.

Student can identify some simple graphemes and is showing an ability to blend with CCV words to decode words.

Student is able to use a range of tools to sound out new words: segmenting; blending all new CCV, CVC and VC words with a good degree of accuracy.

Student identifies and uses a whole range of phonics tools to decode word and shows a good understanding of their relationships with one another.

Student is able to understand the majority of the text; however, student needs clarification for some meaning.

Student is able to understand and and answer simple W/H questions based on written text.

Student shows full understanding of text and is able to infer meaning from it.
