Preparation	Weak Student is obvioulsy unprepared for the presentation. No evidence of any practice.	Fair Student is not well prepared and would benefit from more practice.	Good Student is well prepared but the presentation of the poem needs a little more practice.	Excellent Student is well prepared and it is obvious that he/she has practiced thoroughly.
Physical Presence	Weak The student slouches, looks uncomfortable and makes no effective contact with the audience. Tension and nervousness is obvious.	Fair Presentation is lacking in two or more of the requirements.	Good Student uses good posture, gestures, is relaxed, confident, and maintains appropriate audience contact most of the time.	Excellent Student uses proper posture and gestures, is relaxed and confident, and maintains appropriate audience contact.
Pausing and Pacing	Weak Pauses are not intentionally used. Poetry is choppy and "sing-song." Delivery is either too quick or too slow.	Fair Pauses and pacing are not effective in improving meaning and/or dramatic effect. End-stop lines are forced and delivery is sporatic.	Good The student uses pauses and pacing to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem. Student has good use of end-stop lines. Good Speaks clearly and distinctly most of the time; mispronounces no more than one word. Pitch is used often, and the tone of the chosen music conveys the mood of the poem.	Excellent Speaks clearly all of the time and does not mispronounce any words. Pitch is used often to convey emotions, and the tone of the music expresses the mood and reveals imagery.
