What do you do to make sure you are understanding what you are reading?

I do not check for understanding when I read. If I do not know what a word means I often skip over it.
Beginning to meet

I check for understanding but may need help. If I do not know what a word means I guess what I thinking it might be.

I check for understanding when I read I look up words I do not know. I predict what I think will happen next in the story while I am reading.

I check for understanding when I read. I always look up new words. I skim and reread for details. I predict what I think will happen next while I am reading and find supporting evidence as I read.
