Armature Building	Poor Armature did not work for this hand building project.	Fair Student encountered problems in their hand building based on the integrity of their armature. (example: a hole protruding through the head or paper showing through and or stuck in the head)	Good Student had a small issue in their portrait based on their armature integrity. (example: paper was not pulled out easily.)	Excellent Student covered their armature properly and used paper to build their hollow interior correctly. Paper coils were pulled out easily, and paper did not collapse under the stress of hand building.
Hand-building	Poor Student did not use proper hand-building methods which resulted in the piece falling apart.	Fair Student struggled with hand-building methods, which resulted in parts of the portrait falling off or exposed the hollow interior.	Good Student showed proper hand-building methods to complete their portrait, but parts show instability or cracking.	Excellent Student shows exceptional hand-building skills and no sign of structural integrity within the clay.
Proportions of Features	Poor This portrait does not resemble the reference photograph and/or no attention was given to proportions of the face.	Fair This portrait resembles the reference photograph, but the proportions are off.	Good This portrait resembles the reference photograph, but the proportions are slightly off.	Excellent This portrait shows the proper portions of the face, neck, and shoulders. This portrait looks very similar to the reference photograph.
Craftsmanship	Poor This portrait shows little craftsmanship. This portrait shows many areas that should have been improved before firing.	Fair This portrait has more than one area that needs to be improved or fixed before it was fired.	Good This portrait shows care in textures and finishing methods but has a mistake, such as a crack in the edge or rough texture when it should be smoothed out.	Excellent This portrait was done exceptionally well, with all the actual textures matching the implied textures of the reference photograph. This portrait has smooth bottom edges with no cracks or splits.
