Preparation	Poor Student displays little evidence of reading of the text.	Fair Student displays some evidence of reading the text	Good Student shows consistent evidence of reading the text.	Excellent Students shows an excellent level of reading the text.
Textual Support	Poor Student does not use any specific examples from the text or present unclear examples from the text. Any examples used have no relevance to the topic.	Fair Students use little to no specific textual examples or the examples are unclear and vague. Any referenced examples do not clearly support the idea or question.	Good Student references the text but does not refer to specific passages and page numbers. The selected passage reflects the idea or topic.	Excellent Student references the text directly by indicating specific incidents and passages. The textual support is a superior example that promotes the increased understanding of the topic.
Participation	Poor Student is present in the circle, but does not engage in the conversation.	Fair The student offers some information to the fishbowl, but is regularly interupted, distracted, and weak.	Good The student offers quality information and thoughts regarding the idea. The information offered by the student spurs some additional conversation amongst the group.	Excellent Student is a driving force in the conversation by asking developed questions and creative ideas.
Interaction	Poor Student does not maintain eye contact with other group members. Student frequently interupts or talks over another student. Student addresses teacher or outer circle for the answer.	Fair Student exhibits some positive body language. Student will talk, but does not address any person.	Good Student maintains eye contact and positive body language. Students usually address other group members.	Excellent Student maintains excellent eye contact and body language. Students address other members of the group specifically. Students respect and welcome the ideas of other members in their group.
Outer-Attentiveness	Poor Student does not take notes on the fishbowl activity. Student does not observe the discussion.	Fair Student takes some notes, but they are very sparse. Student is some-what distracted during the discussion.	Good NA	Excellent Students takes notes and actively listens to the members of the inner circle.
