Service Learning Project Service Learning Project For service learning to provide students with valuable results, students need authentic service opportunities and the goals should be tied to their academic learning (Karnes & Bean, 2009). Teachers should require students to keep a journal and planning log to show the process of planning, setting goals, keeping records, and writing reflections. Team worked cooperatively	Poor Did not give input on the project. Let team mates carry most of the responsibility.	Fair Worked with other students to make the project come together. Carried some responsibility and worked with team members.	Good Worked well with other students, and offered ideas and accepted input from other team mates. Carried a lot of responsibility, and actively worked to make the project flow nicely.
Identified long & short-term goals	Poor Did not use time well. Little or no work was done on time. Did not monitor progress adequately. Project was not completed on time.	Fair Some work was not done on time. Monitored progress occasionally. Did not change work habits or schedule accordingly. Worked frantically to finish project on time.	Good Used time well. Work was turned in early or on time.
Records, journal & Reflection	Poor Records and journal writing did not show any information or thoughts on the project. They did reflect on any part of the project activities.	Fair Student often kept good records and reported ideas in journal. Refection showed some thoughts about what they learned from the project.	Good Student regularly kept good records and wrote in journal. Reflection showed growth and shared what they learned from the project.
Presentation Creativity	Poor Student used basic techniques. No new materials or ideas were utilized.	Fair Student used some new techniques to create the project. The design was innovative and unique.	Good Used student-created materials as well as existing material from other sources. Student devised a creative way to design or deliver the project.
