Weekly online discussions for OU students. The goals are to demonstrate 1) your mastery of the reading assignments and 2) your ability to be conversant in an online discussion over the topics studied.

Reads every post made by classmates even after the closing time of the discussion.

Poor and absent (0-3 points)

Makes no original posting.
Fair but showed up (4-6 pts)

Makes a token response which indicates either a light skimming of the material or brings into question whether the assignments were read or absorbed.
Good but incomplete (7-9 pts)

makes a good original post that reflects reading all the previously assigned readings. Willing to share personal experience into conversation.
Excellent Leaders (perfect 10!)

Makes one or more articulate, well crafted responses that advances the conversation while demonstrating a through review of the reading assignments.
Quality of Original Posting

Poor and absent (0-3 points)

Content may be poorly supported opinions or express generally known facts but do not reflect specific details from reading assignments.
Fair but showed up (4-6 pts)

Content reflects a passing understanding of the discussion topic but fails to create impression of deep thinking.
Good but incomplete (7-9 pts)

Content reflects a solid understanding of discussion in context.
Excellent Leaders (perfect 10!)

Comments are insightful, thorough, well supported and may include reference sources. Comments tied together several readings of both current week's assignment and may even reference previous material covered.
Responds to Others' posts

Poor and absent (0-3 points)

Makes extremely brief or no responses to other student's queries.
Fair but showed up (4-6 pts)

Gives a brief response equivalent to saying "ditto" which shows signs of conversational engagement but does not promote robust dialogue to flourish.
Good but incomplete (7-9 pts)

Responds politely with supportive comment or offers validation or encouragement. Students' comments may bring additional perspectives that spur deeper reflections.
Excellent Leaders (perfect 10!)

Revisits posts and answers questions they may have personal knowledge to contribute. Self starters recognize opportunity to their "add two cents" worth to help others.
