Negative Space Silhouette Drawings

Students will created a design using positive shapes and negative space. They will understand that the absence of space also creates a shape.

Silhouette/Balance	Level 4 Student drew an image which was left white to create negative space.The shape is used to divide up the positive space in a balanced composition.Created multiple spaces for design.	Level 3 Student drew an image which was left white to create negative space.The shape is used to divide up the positive space and several larger areas were created for design.	Level 2 Image is drawn in the center of the paper and does not create several areas for the positive space.	Level 1 No larger negative shape using negative space was created. Assignment is incomplete.
Negative Space	Level 4 A variety of patterns were used to create negative space. At least 3 different types of shapes were created in the negative space. Student understood that negative space also creates a shape.	Level 3 A variety of patterns were used to create negative space. Only 2 different types of shapes were created in the negative space.	Level 2 Student did not use a variety of patterns and only one type of shape was created in the negative space.	Level 1 No negative space was created within colored areas. Assignment is incomplete.
Craftsmanship	Level 4 Silhouette is neatly and carefully drawn. Pencil lines were completely erased. Student carefully outlined to create the positive spaces.	Level 3 Silhouette is mostly neat. Some pencil lines are still visible. Most outlines are neatly done.	Level 2 Assignment appears messy. Student needs to work on neatness when completing assignments.	Level 1 Assignment needs to be completed.
