Excellent
The student names all the characters in the book in complete sentences and adds a few details in regards to character characteristics.

Poor
The student does not name the time or place in which the story occurs. Or states the setting, but does not include a sentence starter to help create a phrase or sentence.
Fair
The student names either the time or the place that the story occurred in a complete sentence or phrase (depending on language proficiency level), but doesn't name both.
Good
The student describes in a sentence or phrase the time and place that the story takes place.
Excellent
The student describes in two or more sentences the setting of the story and adds a few characteristics and details.
Problem
Poor
The student does not name the problem or if they name the problem it is incorrect.
Fair
The student names and describes the problem, but does not use a sentence starter to help create a phrase or complete sentence (depending on proficiency level)
Good
The student describes in a complete sentence or phrase the problem.
Excellent
The student describes the problem and include a few details from the text, including characters feelings, actions, language, etc.
Solution
Poor
The student does not name the solution or identifies the wrong part of the story as the solution.
Fair
The student names and describes the solution, but does not use a sentence starter to help create a phrase or complete sentence (depending on proficiency level.
Good
The student describes in a complete sentence or phrase the solution.
Excellent
The student describes the solution and include a few details from the text, including characters feelings, actions, language, etc.
Language
Poor
The students phrases or sentences were often times incomplete.
Fair
The students phrases or sentences were sometimes incomplete and were hard to understand.
Good
The students phrases and sentences were complete and were clearly understood.
Excellent
The students sentences included compound and complex sentences and were clearly understood.
