Penetration	Poor filler metal is on top of base metal, or burn through an bottom of base metal. Hole(s) in base metal	Fair shows evidence of no penetration in some of the weld.	Good shows evidence of good penetration in most of the weld.	Excellent Weld bead has sufficient buildup, and noburn trough
Width of Bead	Poor Width of weld bead varies 1/4	Fair Width of bead weld varies 3/16	Good Width of weld bead varies 1/8	Excellent Width of weld bead varies 1/16
Height of bead	Poor Not consistant and very uneven.	Fair 2 - 3 sections of weld bead too high or too low.	Good 1 section or of weld bead too high or too low.	Excellent weld bead is half the thickness of the metal or more and does not varie more than 1/64
