Recorder Karate

This unit will help students learn to play the soprano recorder. Each song will be learned and students will be required to successfully play it in order to earn their belts.

Recorder Karate This rubric will be used when the student tests for each belt.
	Needs Improvement Student cannot perform on the soprano recorder without assistance from the teacher. 1 pts	Satisfactory Student performs on the soprano recorder with frequent help from the teacher. 2 pts	Good Student correctly performs on the soprano recorder with little or no help. 3 pts	Excellent Student is fluent and consistent when performing on the soprano recorder. 4 pts
Music Reading Student can identify notes on the treble clef staff.	Needs Improvement Student is unable to identify notes on the treble clef staff.	Satisfactory Student can identify notes on the treble clef staff with help from the teacher.	Good Student is able to read the notes on the treble clef staff with little or no help from the teacher.	Excellent Student reads the notes on the staff with no help from the teacher.
Rhythm Student will read and perform the correct rhythmic patterns on the soprano recorder	Needs Improvement Student is unable to perform rhythmic patterns.	Satisfactory Student can perform rhythmic patterns with help from the teacher.	Good Student is able to perform rhythmic patterns with little or no help from the teacher.	Excellent Student performs the rhythmic patterns with no help from the teacher.
Fingerings Student demonstrates correct fingerings on the soprano recorder.	Needs Improvement Student cannot demonstrate correct fingerings on the soprano recorder.	Satisfactory Student can demonstrate/perform correct fingerings on the recorder with help from the teacher.	Good Student is able to demonstrate correct fingerings on the soprano recorder with little or no help from the teacher.	Excellent Student demonstrates the correct fingerings with no help from the teacher.
Written Assessment Student is able to successfully display their knowledge of the recorder and music through a written assessment.	Needs Improvement Student showed no knowledge of the items being assessed.	Satisfactory Student showed partial knowledge on the items being assessed.	Good Student only made a few, if any, mistakes on this assessment.	Excellent Student made no mistakes and shows great knowledge of the items being assessed at this time.
