Elements/ Principles/ Key Concepts	Poor Student showed little evidence of understanding of the elements, principles, or key concepts of the topic; no evidence of planning.	Fair Student did the project adequately demonstrating some understanding of elements, principles, or key concepts of the topic.	Good The artwork shows that the student applied the elements, principles, or key concepts of the topic effectively; showed an awareness of creative and production process; planning evident.	Excellent Planned carefully, made several sketches, and showed grasp of the elements, principles, or key concepts of the topic; project was executed to a high quality.
Creativity / Originality	Poor Student fulfilled the project but gave no evidence of trying anything unusual; might have copied work.	Fair The student tried an idea which was adequate, but it lacked originality; solution or output can be termed "cliche".	Good The student tried a few ideas before selecting one; made decisions after referring to more than one source; found or pursued an unusual way of achieving the output.	Excellent The student explored several choices before selecting one; tried unusual combinations; made connections to previous knowledge; showed problem solving skills to come up with an innovative solution.
Effort / Perseverance	Poor The project was completed with minimum effort.	Fair The student finished the project, but it could have been improved with more effort; adequate interpretation of the assignment, but lacking finish; chose an easy project and did it indifferently.	Good The student worked hard and completed the project, but with a little more effort it might have been outstanding.	Excellent The project was continued until it was complete as the student could make it; effort given was far beyond the requirement.
Craftsmanship / Skill	Poor The student showed below average craftsmanship; lack of pride in finished work.	Fair The student showed average craftsmanship; adequate, but not as good as it could have been, a bit careless.	Good With a little more effort, the work could have been outstanding; lacks the finishing touches.	Excellent The artwork was beautiful and patiently done; it was as good as hard work could make it.
