Piano Lab 
This is a beginner course in piano instruction for students with very little to no experience in playing keyboard. You will learn basic notation, theory and music/songs. Most of this class is individual effort and practice in class.

Student plays 30 minutes or less with focused practice on the keyboard. The rest of the time student is goofing off on the keyboard or not engaged in practicing assigned pages.

Student demonstrates focused practice for a majority of the class. 35 + minutes of work, practicing assigned pages. Genuine effort is observed by the teacher.

Student demonstrates focused practice during class 45 + minutes. Solid effort in playing is observed by the teacher at all times.
Technique

Poor

Rarely sits with correct posture. Incorrect hand position, fingering as shown in the book and not playing with a steady beat. Minimal progress is observed.
Fair

Sits with correct posture some of the time.
Uses correct hand position, fingering as shown in the book and playing with a steady beat some of the time. Showing slower progress.
Good

Sits with correct posture most of class time while playing. Mostly uses correct hand position, fingering as shown in book and playing with a steady beat most of the time. Showing steady progress and growth.
Excellent

Sits with correct posture the entire time while playing.
Plays with correct hand position, fingering as shown in book and plays with steady beat, correct notes and rhythms. Shows fast growth and progress.
Classroom etiquette

Poor

Disrupts others and needs to be warmed more than one time.
A time out may be issued.
Talking to others and not using class time to practice. Not using the keyboard in an appropriate way. "Goofing off". Does not keep area clean.
Fair

Disrupts class or others.
Receives a warning to stop. Not playing on the keyboard appropriately.
Plays some of the time but wastes valuable practice opportunities. Uses keyboard appropriately most of the time. Shows little effort in caring for keyboard and keeping area clean.
Good

Does not disrupt class. May have minimal talking,
but mostly focused on working. Treats keyboard and materials with respect. Keeps area clean.
Excellent

Talking is mostly nonexistent in class. Student shows respect to keyboard and materials and always keeps area clean.
