Problem identification 10 %	Poor The problem is unclear and needs to be more focused. Research questions are to broad and need to be more focused. No evidence that the problem needs to be solved.	Fair The problem is partially identified and research questions need only minor adjustment or correction. The importance of the problem is clear.	Good The problem is clearly stated and a convincing argument put forward about the importance of solving it. Research questions are focused and well written.
Literature review 20 %	Poor The literature relevant to the problem has not been identified	Fair Some literature relevant to the study has been presented - but this is insufficient to inform the reader that the study fills a gap in the literature.	Good It is clear that there is a gap in the literature that this study will seek to fill.
Methodology 30 %	Poor The methodology is original and lacks links to similar studies that used the same methods	Fair The methodology is basically sound but it needs to be supported by references to literature that has already used the same techniques.	Good The methodology to be used looks like it is appropriate for the research questions at hand. The methodology has previously been used in other studies.
Plan 30 %	Poor No timeline and only a sketchy plan of how to complete the research Little evidence of a "plan B" for when things get behind in the project.	Fair The plan lacks credibility with insufficient resources and time allocated to different activities. No planning tool used.	Good There is a believable plan that will lead to completion of the research exercise on time. A project management tool has been used.
Risk analysis 10 %	Poor No significant evidence that potential challenges have been considered.	Fair Some potential issues have been considered, but little said about how these might be overcome.	Good Possible project management difficulties have been identified and viable workarounds suggested.
