Student identifies pitches on staff with inconsistent accuracy; needs some teacher assistance to remember placement of pitches on staff; cannot sing notated pitches.
Meets Expectations

Student accurately names pitches on staff and can sing with aural prompt from teacher.
Exceeds Expectations

Student accurately names and sings pitches with no aural prompt from teacher; can combine changes in rhythm with accurate pitches; can create a notated "so" / "mi" melody on staff; can read pitches on a 3-line staff.
Hearing & Identifying Pitches

Students will listen to short "so"/"mi" pitch patterns played on recorder and identify pitches by singing pitches using solfege syllables.

Limited Mastery

Student cannot identify pitchers verbally or through movement without prompting from the teacher.
Partial Mastery

Student can show pitch changes through movement; can verbally identify or sing a 2-note pattern accurately using solfege syllables.
Meets Expectations

Student can sing a 3- or 4-note pattern accurately using solfege syllables.
Exceeds Expectations

Student can accurately sing more than 4 consecutive pitches using solfege syllables; can create a 4-note melody using "so" & "mi".
