Chemistry is My Life

Students will research how chemistry has influenced one of the following areas: Cooking, medicine, clothing, crime-fighting. They will compile a research project and present their findings to their classmates along with a demonstration of what they have learned.

Introduction	Poor There is no introduction.	Fair The introduction is very short and does not tell the reader what to expect.	Good The introduction gives a good overall view of what the project is about.	Excellent The introduction is informative and creatively written, immediately engaging the reader in the chosen topic.
Layout	Poor Their is no logical order to the project. There is no contents page.	Fair The project is somewhat disorganised and does not flow properly, making the reader confused. The contents page is not functional.	Good The project is presented in a neat and easy-to-follow layout. There is a helpful and accurate contents page.	Excellent The project is visually attractive. It has a logical order, a wonderful contents page and is very creative.
Histroy	Poor Their is no research into the history of chemistry in this area.	Fair The research is very haphazard, out of sequence and difficult to understand.	Good The student has done a fair amount of research on their topic and has included 3 or four facts.	Excellent The student has thouroughly researched the history of chemistry in their chosen field. Dates and facts are in logical order and are easy to follow.
Research	Poor There is no accurate research into the chemistry of their field.	Fair There is some degree of research, but it is not fully relevent to chemistry/ does not follow a logical order.	Good The student has shown how chemistry is used in this field. The research is logical and relevent to chemistry.	Excellent The student has clearly shown the links between their field and chemistry. There are chemical equations to show how certain aspects of their chosen topics have been derived.
Presentation	Poor The student reads most of the presentation. The audience has no idea what is going on. There are no visual aids.	Fair The students is barely audible/ the topic is hard to follow/ the student can not answer simple questions about their project.	Good The student appears confident and is able to keep the audience interested. Their demonstration of chemistry in their field works properly and is interesting.	Excellent The student speaks clearly and with confidence. The chemistry demonstration is exciting and relevent to their project.
Resources	Poor The student has copied the entire project off of the internet.	Fair The student has copied parts of their project and has not refferenced any of it.	Good The student has used 1 or 2 sources for their information and has included refferences for these sources.	Excellent The students has used a variety of different resources and has written the entire project in their own words. The project is thoroughly referenced.
