Assistive Patterning	Limited Proficiency -May alternate hands -Does not turn paper. -May need assistance to position paper and scissors. -May place paper on table rather than holding in hand.	Partial Proficiency -Holds paper with non- dominant hand. -May turn body instead of paper. -may rest paper or hand on table. -"thumbs down" position while holding paper.	Proficient -Moves paper with non- dominant hand. -May stop to re-position paper. -Holds paper in "thumbs up" position.	Advanced Proficiency -Smoothly coordinates movements of cutting and paper holding hands. -Completes project without needing to re-position paper or scissors.
Straight Lines	Limited Proficiency -Holds scissors to paper. -Makes at least 1 snip.	Partial Proficiency -Cuts 6" paper into 2 pieces using consecutive snips in the direction of the line.	Proficient -Cuts along a 6" line of 1/4" thickness and deviates no more than 1/2" from the line.	Advanced Proficiency -Cuts along a 6" line of 1/4" thickness and deviates no more than 1/4" from the line.
Simple Shapes	Limited Proficiency -Holds scissors to paper. -Makes at least 1 snip. -May cut across paper.	Partial Proficiency -Cuts across paper. -Attempts to cut in direction of shape outline.	Proficient -Cuts out a circle, square and triangle with a 1/4" thick line and deviates no more than 3/4" from the line.	Advanced Proficiency -Cuts out a circle, square and triangle with a 1/4" thick line and deviates no more than 1/2" from the line.
Complex Shapes	Limited Proficiency -Holds scissors to paper. -Makes at least 1 snip. -May cut across paper.	Partial Proficiency -Cuts across paper. -May cut in direction of shape outline but disregards curves and angles.	Proficient -Cuts out a complex shape that contains angles and curves with deviations from line but retaining basic contours of shape.	Advanced Proficiency -Cuts out complex shape containing curves and angles deviating from cutting line no more than 1/8".
