Keyboard Performance Keyboard Performance Students use this rubric to evaluate their keyboard technique while playing a simple melody with their right hands and supporting harmony with left hands. Rubric Code: L224W35 By elmosco Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: Music Type: Assessment Grade Levels: 6-8, 9-12

Keyboard Performance Students will use this rubric during self and/or peer-to-peer assessment while practicing playing song on their keyboards
	Advanced 20 pts	Meeting 18 pts	Progressing 15 pts	Not Meeting 10 pts
Technique Posture, hand placement, finger technique.	Advanced Balanced posture with correct hands placement, and fingers placed on appropriate keys.	Meeting Balanced posture with strait correct hands placement, but fingers but placed on wrong keys.	Progressing Posture is not balanced, but back is strait; fingers are not curved, but placed on the right keys	Not Meeting Poor posture, fingers are not curved and they are placed on wrong keys.
Melody Pitch accuracy/right hand	Advanced Melody sounds right, and all notes are correct	Meeting Melody sounds right, but there is one or two wrong notes.	Progressing Melody doesn't sound right, but some notes are correct.	Not Meeting Melody doesn't sound right, and most all of the notes or all of them are wrong.
Harmony Chords or ostinato/left hand	Advanced All notes are correct. Sound is balanced and played on appropriate beat along with a melody.	Meeting All notes are correct, but their sound is not balanced. Most of the time it played on appropriate beat along with a melody.	Progressing Some notes are wrong, but played on appropriate beat along with a melody.	Not Meeting Notes are wrong and played off time. There is no sense of harmony.
Rhythm Rhythm accuracy with a steady beat	Advanced All rhythmic figures with notes and rests are correct, and rhythmic pattern flows with the steady beat.	Meeting Most rhythmic figures with notes and rests are correct, but rhythmic pattern doesn't follow the steady beat.	Progressing Most rhythmic figures with notes and rests are wrong, but rhythmic pattern follow the steady beat.	Not Meeting There is no sense of rhythm pattern that follow the beat.
Musicality Use of elements for musical expression.	Advanced Student consistently plays with appropriate dynamics, phrasing & tempo.	Meeting Student displays ability to play with correct dynamics, phrasing & tempo with only minor errors.	Progressing Use of dynamics is narrow and/or playing is inconsistent in tempo or style.	Not Meeting Student Does not give attention to dynamics, tempo or style indications.
