Clay Plate with design
Clay Plate with design
Students use the slab hand building method with a plate mold to make a clay plate expressing their own unique creativity. Students use glaze to design their plates.

The student showed no evidence of refining the form. Plate not smoothed. Bottom of plate and other areas not cleaned up.

The student made some progress in cleaning up. top smoothed but the bottom of plate is curved in and out with clay pieces and cuts.

The student cleaned up top of plate completely. The bottom still needs refinement somewhat.

The student totally cleaned top and bottom of the plate.

The student applied the glazes with missed areas being evident. White specks. Shows no thought process of applying glazes.

The student applied the glazes with many less areas being obviously missed. White specks still showing. Some thought of how to apply glazes but poorly done.

The student shows evidence of having a plan for glazing the plate. Lines are defined and cleanly done. Few white specks.
Grade Level with Excellence
The student had a evident plan in glazing the plate. Lines are done with purpose. Overall skill handling is excellent. No white specks.
Finish/Aesthetics

The student threw the plate together and is unpleasing to view. No evidence of a thought out design.
Progressing to Grade level
The student attempted with some design to create a pleasing art form but failed to bring overall expressive features out in the plate.

The student's plate shows excellent use of design and is beautiful to behold.
